Nortech confirms commitment to apprenticeships in the 5% club
Nortech Group, the Wynyard-based professional engineering design and project management company, has been accepted into The 5% Club – a dynamic network of companies that are committed to having at least five per cent of their workforces in training.
Nortech, which has undergone rapid expansion to 80 members of staff and a turnover approaching £10m since being set up in April 2011, has broken through that threshold, as currently over 10% of its staff are benefiting from training schemes including apprenticeships.
The 5% Club is focused on creating momentum behind the recruitment of apprentices and graduates into the workforce. Its members consist of FTSE350 companies and similar sized companies who want to make a difference and support the UK’s ability to compete in increasingly tough global markets.
The Managing Director of Nortech Group, said: “It’s great news that we’ve been accepted to join The 5% Club. We’re committed to making sure a growing proportion of our employees have the benefit of some form of training.
“We also regularly take on apprentices across the business; many of whom we keep on in permanent roles. Currently, we have one instrument apprentice as well as two NETA apprentices who have just completed their first year with us. We work closely with local colleges and universities to secure the best and most promising talent and are committed to ensuring that local youngsters in particular are given a springboard to success in their careers by providing high quality work-based training and employment opportunities.”
One such apprentice is Alan Simmons, aged 21, who has been with Nortech Group as a project control apprentice for a year. Alan has been awarded the NETA Project Control Apprentice of the Year Award. NETA is one of the UK’s largest vocational training providers for engineering construction companies.
Nortech Group was named the ‘most promising new business’ at the prestigious British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) national Chamber Awards in 2013.
